Puerto Madryn is a beach resort, and aluminium smelting town on the Atlantic in northern Patagonia.
Puerto Madryn and nearby communities were founded by Welsh settlers in the 1800’s. The Welsh flag flies at this memorial. Welsh is still spoken in some areas.

Firefighter memorial in Puerto Madryn. 25 FF’s were killed in 1961.
The firehall in Puerto Madryn has an indoor parrilla for asados. How cool is that?
Of course, what else would you expect to see on the side of the road in the middle of Patagonia?!

There are many shrines to the folk saint Gaucho Gil, in Argentina. This is one of my favorites, decorated with hub caps.

A rainbow was my reward after riding through a hail storm, north of Rio Gallegos.

Rio Gallegos bills itself as the trout fishing capital of the world. Other than that, not much to write home about.

Crossing the Straights of Magellan, on the ferry to Tierra del Fuego.
Wind blasted trees in Tierra del Fuego. We’re now in the “furious 50’s”.

A rainbow leads the way into Ushuaia.
Made it! (Well not really – the end of the road is another 20 km outside of town).
Now I’ve made it!!

How amazing is that! Your determination, dogged persistence and belief in yourself got you your dream of a lifetime.
Congratulations John!! A well deserved clap. My amazing cousin. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. 👏
With life so often full of sorrow, pain and tragedy; your excellent adventure has brightened my own journey ever so slightly, as I have followed your blogs and dreamed of “being there”.
And I was especially touched by your final video. I could hear and see the awe and gratefulness in your voice and expression.
How absolutely delighted I am that you and Liz have had and shared your dream come true.
Travel safely back to Ebb’s Bay holding your memories forever in your hearts.
Heather.
John – an amazing journey & so great to be able to share it with a very special person. You helped pass a Canadian winter by sharing your images & thoughts on this part of the world. – thankyou
WOW. What a journey you two have had, so much to see and do … or not do .. lol Thank you for sharing it with us through your postings, pictures and videos.
In the last video of you scanning the vast emptiness of the landscape I was waiting for some narrative. When it was over, I realized your silence was even more appropriate.
Travelling those last 2 weeks on your own in such a vast wilderness is a journey you will make many times over in your mind, in your heart and through your pictures and videos.
Again, thank you for taking us along with you, Liz and Percy. Safe journey home.
