In September, 2019 Liz and I joined a 15 day rafting trip on the Colorado River, through the full length of the Grand Canyon. We chose a trip with Canyon Exploration Expeditions for several reasons. Chief among them was that they offer the 3 different types of boat. On any given day you could ride as a passenger in one of the large rowed rafts, paddle in a smaller 7-person raft, or paddle in one of two inflatable Kayaks.
A typical day was floating or paddling for half the day and hiking in side canyons for the other half. Or simply kicking back and soaking it all in. The scenery was breathtaking, light and shadow, colours shifting as the light changed. At night the stars blazed. We were fortunate to have a expert amateur geologist to interpret the canyon for us. We also had several talented musicians. The food was great, the white water was exhilarating, and the people in our group were terrific.
It was an experience that’s hard to put into words, so I’ll leave it to the pictures.
