Photos from our journey on the Carretera Austral in a rental car.

Waterfalls everywhere.

Camo-cow

Waiting for the road to be repaired
Gravel truck heading up the pass.
This is why it needed to be repaired – deep washouts.

You know it’s a hairpin when you drive by looking out the side window.

Who’s a happy girl?

A “Huaso”, who may have been among the early settlers. (In Argentina they’re “Gauchos”, but in Chile, “Huasos”).

The view through the windshield – well, it is a rainforest.

Great to see you both smiling and savouring the moments! But take it easy on those pisco sours, eh
You know me….. always in moderation!
Very much enjoyed these photos, where I could see lots of smiles and fun. I have never had the experience of driving by looking through my side windows, something you captured beautifully!
You know me….. always in moderation!
Not surprised you found a cat Liz!
Glad to know you are still above ground!!
She was a sweet cat that was the owner’s cat when we stayed in lovely cabanas in Chaiten. She loved the milk and the warm glow of the fire from the wood stove. It was nice to have the feline.company.
You paint beautiful pictures with your words; one feel like a passenger beside you!
Thank you for the blog post!
Just catching up on your last two posts. Imagine my relief to read Liz was still alive. I must have missed something in the earlier posts … lol Loving all the pics you folks are taking. Occasionally there is one of the two of you … so we know you are travelling together .. lol
So what is the scoop on Percy???? I do not remember seeing Percy or even any mention of him. If there was … I obviously missed it. Till your next post …. safe travels.
Percy is our travel mascot. We first found Percy (short for Percival the Penguin) down and out in the mean streets of Toronto. We adopted him just before our trip to Antarctica over 20 years ago. He wanted to go home, so we took him on the voyage. He loved visiting friends and family, but in the end decided to come home with us. He has been with us on all our great adventures every since.
