The trail to the top of the Chaiten volcano rises some 1,400 meters in just over 4 km, making it a steep climb. But the path is clear if challenging, and the view from the top makes it all worthwhile. New growth sprouts amid the charred remains of trees killed by the pyroclastic flows from the recent eruption. Wisps of steam can be seen coming from the sides of the caldera.

Absolutely fantastic photos! What a climb and what a view. I especially enjoyed the photos of the dead trees, which look quite striking. Glad someone was there to get your photo on the summit.
